Anything but coals to Newcastle

The old saying is about taking something to a place that already has plenty of it. That was not the case at XNC1 in Newcastle.

Jack spent the week at XNC1, a small transfer station. It is a live operational site, with people working, other trades on site, and daily activity continuing around the job.

After driving up from Sydney and settling in for the week, Jack got stuck in with the support of a small crew of temp staff.

The scope was straightforward on paper. Remove and install 5S. Assemble and roll out modules. Receive two semis of carts.

But on a live site, it is never just about the scope. The work had to be carried out around operations. Timing, access and coordination all played a part. Like most live environments, the job depended on good planning, clear communication and working in step with what was happening on site.

Across the week, the team worked through the job piece by piece, fitting it around truck movements, other trades and the general pace of the site. Small job or large site, the approach stays the same. Plan it properly. Work with the site. Complete the job to standard.

By the end of the week, the work was done and the site had what it needed.

So no, not coals to Newcastle.
