Precision Installation in an Operational Warehouse

Executing installations in active, operational warehouses requires meticulous planning, teamwork, and adaptability. NPSG Australia showcased these strengths with the successful installation of an automation system in Melbourne, Victoria. Completed on behalf of Dematic, one of Australia’s leading logistics automation providers, the project highlights the team’s ability to navigate challenges and deliver high quality results.

The scope of work was extensive, involving the assembly of conveyors for the Goods to Person stations and Dematic Multishuttle (DMS), decant conveyor, and sorter conveyor systems. Additional tasks included the installation of guardrails and netting to enhance safety and operational reliability.

This project required working in a live warehouse environment, which meant careful coordination with other contractors, such as those installing the mezzanine floor. "It was all about staying adaptable," said Chris Coote, NPSG Australia’s assistant project manager. "Working around a busy warehouse required close communication with everyone involved." The phased approach added complexity, as certain tasks, like installing the DMS conveyors, could only begin once the mezzanine was completed.

The project began with sorting and organising conveyor pallets into specific groups to streamline the installation process. The team tackled challenges such as working on inclines and elevated sections, ensuring safety and precision at every step. Adapting to the site’s requirements, they developed effective methods to install and secure components at various elevations.

As the installation progressed, the team refined their processes and focused on completing the Decant area, guardrails, side covers, netting, and bracing, followed by a thorough punch list review to ensure every detail was perfect.
